Members of Chingford Parish Church Choir were honoured to sing the services at Westminster Abbey over the weekend of 11th April, while the Abbey Choir was on its Easter break.

Drawing singers from the Chamber Choir, senior girls and our adult altos, tenors and basses, the choir sang Evensong on Saturday, and both Eucharist and Evensong services on Sunday.

It was a privilege to be invited to contribute to the worship of the Abbey in this way, and a memorable weekend of music-making in one of the great establishments of the English church.

Music included Clucas responses, Sumsion in A and Rutter’s Christ the Lord is risen again at Saturday Evensong; Rheinberger in E flat and Loosemore’s O Lord increase my faith at Sunday Eucharist; and Clucas responses, Stanford in A and Byrd’s Haec dies at Sunday Evensong.

The Sunday morning start was not for the faint-hearted, with the choir needing to be at the Abbey by 8.15am – but it was more than worth the early alarm.
