The Parish Church Choir

The Parish Choir is a traditional robed, cathedral-style choir comprised of choristers from the sectional choirs. It forms the mainstay of the choral tradition here and has done for generations. The adult choir of altos, tenors and basses sing with either the boys’ or the girls’ choirs, occasionally coming together for larger services.
We are always welcoming to new members (see here). Contact Mike Emerson, the Director of Music to enquire.
Our Choristers
The Parish Church maintains separate boys’ and girls’ choirs which generally alternate singing the services of Eucharist and Evensong each week in term time and at major festivals in the church year. The choirs sing alongside the adult altos, tenors and basses at our Sunday Choral Services and often at cathedrals around the country and abroad.
Being a chorister provides a wonderful musical and educational opportunity and experience as well as nurturing adult singers of the future. Both choirs enjoy the same opportunities.
The boys and girls enjoy combining as a massed choir for special events and concerts.
Children who enjoy singing are welcome to join as soon as they are able to read fluently and concentrate sufficiently (usually from around age 7), and we invite anyone interested to come and see what it is like first. See our Sing with us page for more information and our recruitment video.
The Boys’ Choir
We are proud to maintain a thriving independent treble section of boy choristers, who sing alongside the adult altos, tenors and basses at our Sunday Choral Services and often at cathedrals around the country and abroad. This continues a tradition at Chingford Parish Church dating back to 1905.
The Girls’ Choir
Another key part of music at Chingford is the Girls’ Choir. Along with the boys, the thriving Girls’ Choir, open to girls aged 7–18, sing at Eucharist and Evensong each week and regularly go on tour.
The Chingford Singers
The Chingford Singers are made up of adult sopranos and contraltos who, together with the men of the Parish Church Choir, perform a ‘choral society’-type repertoire at concerts or sing at special services.
The Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir is a smaller ensemble drawn, by invitation, from full or associate members of the other choirs. This choir meets for specific events (cathedral visits, concerts, etc.) and enables people to continue singing once they reach university age and beyond.
Purple Praise
Purple Praise is a community choir for all abilities. They rehearse fortnightly on Saturday mornings at All Saints (The Old Church) and perform there regularly. Please contact Rodney Matthews for more information.
