The Living Wage Foundation is pleased to announce that Chingford Parish has today accredited as a Living Wage employer. From June 1st the Living Wage commitment will see everyone working for the Parish regardless of whether they are direct employees or third-party contracted staff; receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.75-significantly higher than the statutory minimum for over 25s of £7.50 per hour introduced in April 2017. The real Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. The Living Wage is calculated according to the real costs of living.

Meet (Fr) Lee Taylor, new full time Assistant Curate for the Parish. Lee was born in Wales moving to Basildon with his family at 3 growing up there and in Wickford. Lee’s previous career was in Local Government, working in libraries, and supporting councillors and leadership teams. These roles were great for working with people and gaining leadership and management skills. Operation Christmas Child 105 shoeboxes were collected by Sunday Club at the Old Church this year, an amazing number, and far outdoing the 75 we collected last year at our first attempt. The boxes are distributed by the Christian charity Samaritans Purse, to children in need throughout the world. Well done to all those who packed a box, donated things, or money, or helped in any way. A number of active local leaders from our schools and churches gathered to begin the process of relaunching a Citizens UK Chapter in Waltham Forest. Our Parish is on the organising team and will be at the front of the queue when it comes to joining up. Here Bishop Peter tells the story of the founding of Nottingham Citizens at George Moneaux College, where students have been running a listening campaign in the lead up to the re-launch.
